1. Aviation safety (ASE) by Seneca Polytechnic
It is a six-semester and three-year aviation safety training program offered by Seneca Polytechnic, wherein one will receive comprehensive education on different safety techniques vital in the aviation industry. As part of this program, one will learn:

Civil aviation services providers, such as maintenance organizations and air navigation service providers, are required to develop and operate a Safety Management System that caters to the state safety oversight requirements stated in Annex 19 by the Civil Aviation Organization. This course, offered by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), is a five-day, 40-hour aviation safety program conducted by an official IATA instructor. It is a classroom aviation safety program. So, one must visit the IATA training center or opt for in-house training. One’s performance will be marked based on assessment. The SMS aims to maintain aviation safety globally, improve operational efficiency, and ensure safe operations.

The course covers the following aspects:

  • Safety assurance
  • Safety risk management
  • Safety objectives and policies
  • Safety promotion

One will learn these things through many case studies and practical examples. Members pay $2,408 for the class, but the regular users will bear $2,676 for this session. One can register early and bag an early bird discount of up to 25% on this class.

3. Advanced safety management systems (SMS) in civil aviation
Developed and delivered by IATA in collaboration with the industry, this aviation safety program helps one build expertise and knowledge in the domain. It is a four-day session that spans over 16 hours, during which the curriculum examines  safety management concepts from a holistic point of view.  As part of this course, one will  develop a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing the  organization’s safety outcomes.

The course is designed to foster critical thinking  and enable participants to create defensible safety positions through group discussions and case studies. As the sessions progress, participants will learn emerging safety management concepts that will shape the SMS in the coming years.

Course features

  • It is a live virtual classroom session
  • During the course, participants will have one live interactive virtual session per day
  • Every class lasts for 240 minutes
  • Participants will have to spare additional time for two assignments
  • There will be a follow-up virtual meeting held three months after the course
  • Participants must participate thoroughly in the live sessions and work on multiple Q&A sessions
  • Participants’ performance will be evaluated through assessments

4. Aircraft recovery workshop
It is a 3-day aviation safety training certification course by IATA to ensure that airlines and airports are better equipped to deal with disabled aircraft recovery situations safely. As part of this class, one will learn about:

  • The equipment types
  • Recovery planning
  • Correct recovery techniques
  • Identifying airport weight reduction methods
  • Responsibilities of the airline operations and airport
  • Elements of a pre-recovery survey and the recovery preparation
  • Computing the aircraft recovery weight and center of gravity

All of this will help one avoid secondary damage. 

Course features

  • One must have basic airport operations and aircraft engineering knowledge to take this class.
  • It is suitable for intermediate and beginner learners.
  • One must have the ICAO Operational Level 4 or equivalent language proficiency.
  • One’s performance is evaluated through assessments.

Once an individual completes the course, they will earn a completion certificate if they score 70% or higher in the assessment. However, those who score 90% or higher will be awarded a special distinction.
